Word Path.

God has plans for each person's life, but so does the devil. The start of any plan includes foundation and formulation. In other words, if you want things to happen, you have to have a plan. With that being, the year is almost over and you need to know what the focus of your life will be for the new year, in the form of at least one word.

Many organizations and companies have a theme of the year for them and their people. If you go to church you might hear the terminology "corporate word" used for a sermon or in this case, a word that the entire house follows for the year.

You also need an individual word, because God talks not only to people as a group but one on one. There are many reasons he talks to you, such as friendship, and direction. When there is no direction, we fall into traps. Traps of self-destruction, stagnation, unproductivity, etc. "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge" (Hosea 4:6) is commonly quoted. When we don't know, we can't grow.

There are so many options in the world, so many distractions and decisions to make. This is why a scripture like "Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path." (Psalm 119:105) is so important. Let the Lord give you a word to guide you.

It's cool to pick out a word for ourselves, maybe a personal goal, but I've realized, for myself, that what's even better is listening for God to give me what my words are. I'll take his galaxy-making mind over mine any day.

"In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps." (Proverbs 16:9)

In 2015 I had four words and at first did not realize they were for the whole year. I talked to my pastor and he further explained the words to me for my life. One of the words was "transformation", and there were a lot of things in my heart that changed for the better that year.

At the beginning of 2016 I was in Charlotte and the speaker really taught us the value of individual words. In 2016, I had two: "tenacity" and "valor". I printed out the definitions and put them on my wall. This was definitely a year of not giving up the fight (a lot of mental battles and emotional balancing), which is basically what those words mean, and them visually being on my wall refocused me.

For 2017 I again have four words. One of them is "exposure". Part of that is showing people a different way to think that invites peace into their life, exposing people to something new.

So, how do you get a word from God? Well, just ask. James 1:5 says "If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking."

He may speak to you in a quiet voice, a loud voice, a dream, a tv show or commercial, classical music, through another person, a passing thought, a feeling in your heart, etc. There are so many ways.
