New Year.

who, what, when, where, why, and how

By answering these questions, I think there are some things we need and can apply for the New Year when it comes to our goals.

Purpose: defined as the reason for which something exists or is done, made, etc. This is the why and where. It could also be the who but we'll save that for another section. That's how important purpose is as the foundation. We first need to know why we are doing something and where are we going. "I want to make money", why? To be rich? That's not a purpose. Where do you want to be? Any material answer is not your purpose. Our purpose always has to do with helping other people. (why and where)

Practicality: being reasonable about your goals. I don't mean not dreaming big, I mean we actually have to take steps. We have to be practical. Don't aim for something you don't even want to do the work for. This is your mindset. This is the how. (how)

Passion: any powerful or compelling emotion or feeling. This deals with the inner you. I believe if we know our purpose for doing something, the passion will cause us to be practical. What stirs you up? Do your goals actually make something in you burn with a healthy, mighty fire? Or are your goals just superficial. Your passion will cause you to act according to what has your heart. This is the who because passion can be good or bad, so it's important to find out your overall purpose in life, and then the purpose for why you are doing something so your passion can be healthy, productive and aimed in the right direction. (who)

Persistence: continuing steadfastly or firmly. This deals with the outer you. You will have to push yourself, many times physically, to do what you might not feel like doing. This is the what. Persistence is the vehicle, it is what will drive you. Passion will start up the vehicle but persistence pushes the gas. (what)

Pace: a rate of movement. This is the when. Don't kill yourself; know when to move and when to relax. Pace yourself. (when)
