Do You Know What God is Doing?

"Man, I don't know what God is doing but it's something big!" Have you ever heard this churchy two dollar statement? Or something similar? Why do people who say they follow God or love God for years and years never know what God is doing?

"God works in mysterious ways". That's not even a scripture in the bible.

There are various reasons why people have no idea what they're talking about when it comes to God's "top secret" plans, but I'm only going to highlight a few, and I'm going to stay in the book of Psalms as well as Jeremiah.

You've been in church for 53 years, running around the sanctuary, doing backflips at the altar and slapping money down on the pulpit saying "I don't know what God is doing but I'm ready for my blessing".

You don't sound faithful you sound foolish.

Now, I'm not saying you're going to always know what God is doing, no one does. However, if you never know what God is doing, and you claim God, there is a disconnect. You may not know how God is going to something, but you need to know what God is doing at some point in your life.

We need better understanding because now people who don't know anything are making disciples who don't know anything. Yet we wonder why the church is seemingly losing its influence or why people want to get answers from a fortune cookie or a horoscope from the 3rd moon trimester rabbit's foot. People need answers. The Lord designed people to receive answers.

Let's go to the Scriptures:

Jeremiah 33:2-3 (MSG)
“This is God’s Message, the God who made earth, made it livable and lasting, known everywhere as God: ‘Call to me and I will answer you. I’ll tell you marvelous and wondrous things that you could never figure out on your own.’"

You don't know what God is doing because you don't talk to him, or you're not listening. We call that prayer. Simple conversation. Prayer doesn't have to be this elaborate drama religious people often make it out to be. God made everyone and everything, and he is willing to let you know what you do not know about everyone and everything, including yourself. He speaks through his Word, other people, dreams, visions, situations, nature, etc. Pay attention.

Psalm 139:13-18 (NLT)
13 You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body
and knit me together in my mother’s womb.
14 Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex!
Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it.
15 You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion,
as I was woven together in the dark of the womb.
16 You saw me before I was born.
Every day of my life was recorded in your book.
Every moment was laid out
before a single day had passed.
17 How precious are your thoughts about me, O God.
    They cannot be numbered!
18 I can’t even count them;
they outnumber the grains of sand!
And when I wake up,
    you are still with me!

David lets us know just how intricately God made us. The Lord made you in great detail and even has your life laid out in a literal book. Every prophetic word over your life is in the pages of that book. That's why a lot of people never progress in life because they're praying for something that's not in that book. You swear you can sing but God didn't write "famous world tour singer" in the book for your life. You sound horrible, stop it. Pray to God to see and hear what God has written about you.

Psalm 23:3 (NLT)
He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name.

I love what David said here as well. Maybe you don't know what God is doing because he's not leading your life. And if he is, maybe you're too worried about making your own name great. I've seen it in church far too many times. I've literally even heard christians say "I'm trying to be famous" and never mention lifting up the name of Jesus. I'm not talking about religious rhetoric. I'm talking about lifting his name up with your lifestyle behind closed doors so you can have power in what you say in public. People know the difference. You want to be famous for people though. Your life is going nowhere like that saints. Of course you don't know what God is doing because you're focused on what you're doing.

Some religious noodlehead is real mad right now.

Jeremiah 11:18-19
Then the LORD told me about the plots my enemies were making against me. I was like a lamb being led to the slaughter. I had no idea that they were planning to kill me! "Let's destroy this man and all his words," they said. "Let's cut him down, so his name will be forgotten forever."

The prophet Jeremiah also had insight into what the enemy was doing. How many of you know that not only do you need to know what God is doing in your life, but what satan is trying to do in your life? God will reveal it. That's why a lot of people get destroyed, because they thought life was a cakewalk. There is an enemy who hates you, but more importantly, there is a Father who loves you.
